Abstract

The text is a review of a monograph by Andrij Kryzhaniwskyi devoted to the medieval Lviv mint and the coinage of Halych-Rus’ in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The work deserves high praise for its accessible historical narrative, broad source base, and the use of modern research methods. The language of publication — Polish — is also significant, as it broadens the book’s potential readership. However, Andrij Kryzhaniwskyi’s study has certain weaknesses, primarily with regard to the absolute dating of the coins, the interpretation of so-called “secret marks,” and an excessive reliance on metrological analysis. Despite these reservations, the book should be regarded as a valuable study, important for researchers of late medieval numismatics and the history of Lviv and Halych-Rus’.
