Models of Motherhood Among the Roma Living in Poland

Abstract

The article presents motherhood practices among Roma from the Polish Roma group. Being a mother is the main role of women in traditional Roma communities however practices associated with it are undergoing changes. In this article patterns of family life, parental rules, customs associated with preg-nancy and childbirth as well as the social roles of women and patterns of femininity are investigated.
