Abstract

Barbara Burchard (1930-2016) was one of the most important researchers in the field of Funnel Beaker culture (FBC) in south-eastern Poland. In conducted studies she managed to highlight certain crucial problems related to the Middle Eneolithic period: (1) the origins of the FBC in Lesser Poland, (2) the process known as Badenisation, and (3)/ the reception of the megalithic burial rite. Therefore, it is worth looking at her research achievements from the perspective of present-day studies on the Neolithic in south-eastern Poland. The results obtained by Burchard remain largely valid today, as does the list of unsolved problems specified by her.
