About the Journal

Sprawozdania Archeologiczne is a peer-reviewed Polish archaeological journal edited and published annually in English and German by the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, intended especially for Polish and Central-European readership. Its main aim is to present a wide range of approaches to issues in contemporary archaeology and to publish materials and findings of field surveys.

Established in 1955, Sprawozdania Archeologicznewas initially intended to publish reports of archaeological excavations in Poland only in Polish. Until 1990, the journal was published by the Ossolineum Publishing House.
Its first editors were:
1955-1966 (vol. 1-18) – Stefan Nosek

1967-2003 (vol. 19-55) – Jan Machnik

2004-2018 (vol. 56-70) – Sławomir Kadrow

2018-present (vol. 71-) – Piotr Włodarczak

Since 2004, the journal's editor has been Piotr Włodarczak. Due to a change in the editorial policy, contributions from abroad are now also welcomed. The volumes published since then in English and German focus on various research questions and findings of field surveys in all periods of prehistory and early history of Poland, Central and South-Eastern Europe. The papers also discuss methods of field surveys, analyses as well as matters of interest to the archaeological profession and its interaction with society. Moreover, the volumes contain book reviews, discussions, criticism and a chronicle of archaeological events.
The primary version of Sprawozdania Archeologiczne is the paper version.

Sprawozdania Archeologiczne is listed in Scopus, on the European Reference Index for the Humanities (ERIH) and The Central European Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (CEJSH).
