Abstract

The article focuses on the intangible cultural heritage of the Kosznajder community—Catholic settlers of German origin who inhabited the borderlands of Pomerania and Kuyavia from the 14th century onward. It presents Kosznajderia as an example of an integrated, ritual-based rural community, in which labor, religion, and spatial organization formed a cohesive whole. Special attention is given to traditional land-use practices (e.g., the system of lot allocation), microtoponymy, and the symbolic significance of sacred sites within the rural landscape. The article highlights the gradual decline of Kosznajder cultural identity as a result of war, migration, and civilizational change, while emphasizing the importance of memory and language studies in reconstructing local heritage.
