The struggle over memory hidden in the contemporary cityscape: the example of Skopje 2014, Macedonia

Miasto jest produktem nie tylko urbanistów i architektów, ale również polityków pisarzy i członków różnych grup, które postrzegają miasto jak własne. Walka o pamięć jest widoczna w wielu miejscach. Jednakże uważam, że na post-socjalistycznym gruncie różne miejskie „wojny symboliczne” są szczególnie widoczne. Skopje jest jednym z takich przykładów. Celem analizowanego projektu „Skopje 2014” jest przebudowa centrum miasta w duchu antyczności poprzez odnawianie fasad, projektowanie nowych budynków i stawianie ogromnej liczby pomników. Jak postaram się wykazać, w projekcie tym, poprzez różne znaczenia nostalgii ukryta jest zarówno polityka zorientowanego narodowo rządu macedońskiego jak i próba stworzenia nowej tożsamości miejskiej Skopje, związanej z europejskim dziedzictwem
