Abstract

Analyses of stable isotopes are among the newest methods applied with success in research on the origin and mobility of pre-historic and historic populations. The article presents the prospects of their application to early-mediaeval remains attributed to the Slavs and their potential contribution to the ongoing discussion on the ethnogenesis of this group. This presentation is preceded with a general outline of analyses of stable isotopes and of the conditions of their application. In connection with Slavic burial rites the article also mentions current views on the possibility of applying this method to cremated remains.
