Abstract

The aim of the article is to analyse the inventory of Józef Gostomski’s bookstore in terms of the method of preparation and the content of the listed books. Intended for transfer or sale, the bookstore’s inventory registers 518 books in 3,523 copies, mostly from Polish-Lithuanian printing houses with some issued by foreign presses. The
analysis of the inventory’s preparation method and content allows for the identification of the bookstore’s stock, the means and methods of acquiring books, and their material
value. The content analysis indicates the reading interests of customers, which appear to be oriented towards various religious writings, belles-lettres and popular literature,
teaching aids, and, to a much lesser extent, works from other fields of knowledge.
