Dear Readers,

We hereby issue the call for papers for the upcoming issue of the Journal of Urban Ethnology (23/2025), whose leading topic will be

MICROPOLIS – PERSONAL CITY – OWN CITY

contained in the expressions: my city, my district, my street, my tenement house, my yard, my house, my school, my park etc.

A personal city is not only a metaphor but also an analytical category, referring to Andrzej Majer's concept:

A micropolis is a part of the city considered "one's own" and its inhabitants - family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, neighbours - also treated as "one's own". In other words, it is personal or one's own city within a city, a kind of pars pro toto (a part in place of the whole), and at the same time a metaphor expressing the most real and true way of contact with the urban environment (Majer A., Micropolis. Socjologia miasta osobistego, Łódź 2015, p. 7.).

We encourage you to reflect on your personal experiencing, seeing the city and creating its image - subjective, emotive, sensory, in everyday, unusual, past and contemporary situations.

Deadline for papers intended for publication in this section: 28th February 2025.

In addition, in the Miscellanea section of each issue we reserve space for papers not connected with the issue’s leading topic; contributions for this section are invited on a permanent basis.
