Abstract

We believe that the main goal of managing urban heritage is to preserve it in the best possible condition. Investment activities are not a sufficient measure. To achieve a long-term effect, it is advisable to build social awareness of the historical value of spatial layouts. In addition to facilitating the preservation of valuable cultural landscapes thanks to social control, it allows for positive effects related to the well-being of the inhabitants. The role of museums in managing urban heritage is analyzed using the example of the activities of the Museum of Cracow. We show relation between good practices applied by the institution and its environment.
