Abstract

The paper discusses the picture of Krakow in the early 1920s in the surrealist interpretation of Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz, a writer and a painter, as presented in his novels Insatiability and The Only Way Out. However, Witkiewicz did not describe the realities of the city, but a phantasmagorical images of places with
which he was associated. The novel’s characters are a distorted mirror of his Krakow friends and lovers. Among them he also placed himself, or rather various aspects of his personality.
