Abstract

The article presents partial results of research on literary representations of the interwar Cracow as based on the pro-social poems Usta na pomoc by Jalu Kurek (Cracow, 1933) and Reporter róż by Marian Czuchnowski (Cracow, 1932). In the poetry of the interwar period, Cracow is usually shown in two ways. The first approach emphasizes a subjective view of the urban space, proving the writer’s strong relationship with the city, its historic architecture and green areas. The second is an attempt to present urban space objectively, which most often occurs in works with reportage features, where we deal with the registration of facts. These texts are usually characterized by a persuasive language and didacticism, which are the characteristics of programmatic creativity. Their exemplification are, among others, the poems written by Kurek and Czuchnowski, writers associated with the circles of the Cracow avant-garde.
