Abstract

Wolica is a former village on the border of Ursynów and Wilanów, incorporated to Warsaw in 1951. The author has been doing field research in Wolica for her PhD since 2019. In the article, she describes the behavioural, material and linguistic artefacts of Wolica’s folk culture. She also quotes excerpts from ethnographic interviews with residents of the area. The evoked artefacts testifying to Wolica’s folk past have a different meaning today than they did previously. They are a carrier of what had been, linking the past with the present. They also serve the inhabitants of Wolica for a self-folklorisation that allows the former village to survive.
