Abstract

The paper deals with the character of the worker housing in Slovakia. The introduction provides an overview of the research interest about industrial workers in ethnology. The following section provides a brief summary of the development of their housing forms in connection with the process of industrialization. The author focuses on the capital city of Bratislava, where he describes the industry and the types of housing for industrial workers. The text focuses on the former suburb of Bratislava, Dornkappel (currently Trnavka), its inhabitants, who were mostly industrial workers, and their way of life in the inter-war period. Finally, the author examines the status of industrial heritage and the current attitudes of the Slovak society to it.
