Triumf karnawału. Parodia polskiej „zmarzliny” w akcjach Pomarańczowej Alternatywy

Ada Florentyna Pawlak

Abstract

The paper focuses on the underground movement known as the “Orange Alternative” (Polish: “Pomarańczowa Alternatywa”) whose happenings parodied the “permafrost” realities of the People’s Republic of Poland. The activity of this urban “artistic guerrilla” are discussed in the context of Mikhail Bakhtin’s carnival theory. The author claims that this movement was an urban carnival, complete with all its accessories and set in the conditions of the socialist metaphorical state as “winter in the city”, and that it openly articulated the need for change and renewal
