Karnawał studencki i jego nazwy

Monika Choroś

Abstract

The students’ festival, in Polish called juwenalia and, sporadically, żakinada, is a kind of carnival, the last days of carefree fun before the summer exams. Each city or university that organises this event gives it its own specific name, e.g. “Piastonalia”, “Upnalia”, “Juwenalia Podbeskidzia”. The current paper discusses the meaning and origin of single-word terms describing those carnivals, as well as the word-formation methods used to create them
