Przestrzeń miejska w praktykach kulturowo-społecznych: ulica Ferhadija w Sarajewie

Justyna Pilarska

Abstract

The article tackles the issue of urban space in the context of cultural and social practices, exemplified by one of the main streets in Sarajevo. Making the Ferhadija street in the capital city of Bosnia-Herzegovina her case study, the author analyses one of the city’s main thoroughfares, thus reconstructing the multidimensional pattern of utilising space in a cultural borderland. The meanings attributed to the Ferhadija street constitute the frame which provides a point of reference for the reflections on cultural and public practices associated with the status of individual persons, the expression of their confessional or ethnic identity, or the attempt to establish the discourse with the (recent) history of the siege and the civil war
