Abstract

The article surveys the major results of the excavations conducted in 1949–1951 and 1971 in the Łysa Góra stronghold in Błonie, built in the 1230s or 1240s by Duke Konrad I of Mazovia. Hypotheses concerning the relicts discovered there are discussed, especially the interpretation of the remains of a brick building as a residence of Duke Siemowit I of Mazovia. The hypothesis was supported by the finds of cut-decorated
and glazed bricks, and a painted fragment. The article also presents previously unpublished data on the building ceramics found in Błonie, including archival photographs of bricks, the precise measurements of those surviving in full, and the chemical composition of the glaze. Furthermore, the function of one of the fragments has been verified.
