Abstract

The article is based on two inventories and the balance sheet documentation of the shop run in Warsaw by  Jean-Joseph Chaudoir (1746–1839) and his brother Jacques Hubert (1753–1794), French-language merchants who came to Warsaw in 1774 and c. 1783, respectively.  It discusses the offer of the shop (the range of goods sold and their prices), the origin of the goods, the Chaudoirs’ network of trade contacts, the clientele and the range of income.
