Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present the scope and the character of medical care provided at one of gentry manors in the second half of the nineteenth century, based on
egodocuments created by Helena Ostrowska of Maluszyn. In Ostrowska’s private papers as well as in the family’s correspondence, there is plenty of information concerning everyday life of the manor, including the administered medical treatments. The analysis of the material allows to present the strategies of dealing with diseases, the range of medical assistance, emergency medical procedures, medicine cabinet supplies, and the functioning of the manor’s hospital for servants.
