Abstract

The article discusses some methodological proposals applicable in research on the history of architecture, drawn from publications inspired by the Actor-Network Theory and the turn to materiality in contemporary humanities. Based mainly on the works of Bruno Latour and  Albena Yaneva, the author proposes to view the processes of designing, constructing and using buildings as involving incessantly altering relationships and references between animate and inanimate actors. A processual analysis of the history of architecture can offer fresh and stimulating questions and research concepts, as is demonstrated by examples of buildings in Kalisz connected with the architect Józef Chrzanowski (1844–1915).
