Abstract

The article examines the acquisition of municipal citizenship in Kraków by Lviv burghers and in Lviv by Kraków burghers. Based on published admission registers from 1388–1605 and 1392–1611, respectively, the chronology and statistics of
migration, as well as occupational diversity, were analysed. In Lviv, at least 106 Kraków burghers obtained citizenship, constituting 3% of all new citizens; in contrast, 86 newcomers from Lviv were recorded in Kraków (0.5% of the admissions). Citizenship was sought not only by merchants but predominantly by artisans, particularly goldsmiths and furriers. Kraków burghers tended to achieve higher social
standing in their new city, whereas the participation of Lviv burghers in Kraków’s municipal government was rare.
