Abstract

The article is concerned with the relationship between architecture and the urban space and its representation in films on the example of post-war Gdańsk. Analysis of cinematic productions from the late 1950s and early 1960s as one of the important sources of knowledge about urban culture provides a pretext to undertake broader considerations related to semiotic and socio-cultural practices. Moreover, the research objective is an analysis aimed at understanding social conditions of cinematic production and film reception, as well as the mediated production of urban space and cultural identity in the political and ideological conditions of Poland in the period of the People’s Republic.
