Karnawał na granicy – widowisko a obraz świata współczesnych mieszkańców pogranicza śląskocieszyńskiego

Katarzyna Marcol

Abstract

“The Three Brothers’ Day” is a festival organized by the local authorities of border towns: Cieszyn (PL) and Český Těšín (CZ). The pageant combines some aspects of an official celebration and a folk carnival, which allows us to define it as an “official holiday in a carnival mask”. The symbolism of the event refers to specific moments in the history of the region, creating an interpretation of the past which, when presented in the context of contemporary national relations, influences the transformation of the world image demonstrated by the residents of the borderland
