Abstract

This book presents a unique deposit of weapons and personal equipment belonging to warriors from the Roman period, found within the former Lake Nidajno in Masuria. This discovery testifies to the practice at that time by the people of the Bogaczewo culture (from the Western Baltic cultural circle) of ceremonially depositing gifts in the form of weapons and prestigious objects, often intentionally destroyed beforehand, in the aquatic environment. It also contains reflections on the stylistic diversity of artefacts from the late antiquity of Central Europe, as well as on the nature of the various relations between the peoples of Barbaricum and the Roman state. This is the English-language version of A. Rzeszotarska-Nowakiewicz's 2021 publication.
