OMNIPRESENT HUMILIATION. (ON THE MARGINS OF ANDRZEJ SZAHAJ'S ARTICLE - "CULTURE OF HUMILIATION")

Michał Rydlewski

Abstract

This article presents some remarks on Andrzej Szahaj s "Culture of humiliation" published in "Odra" journal. I accept authors two theses. First of them discusses Polish TV programs such as "Poland got talent" or "Top Model", and how they reflect the condition of our society and the Neo-Liberal ideology spread throughout the country Second thesis states that "culture of humiliation" is directly proportional to the social inequality. I analysed similar TV programs which consist elements of mentioned "culture of humiliation". In these shows people are usually humiliated by all sorts of experts', who present a part of a 'desirable world' for participators. I also mention that some of these TV shows have equivalents designed for kids and cause a threat to children's socialization.
