Abstract

The article describes three cities in Poland that experienced the tragedy of the Second World War each in a different way: Warsaw, Cracow and Wroclaw. In all three, traces of the great devastation caused by the war have remained visible to this day. The selection was made based on the author’s experience of the places, hence the text is at times autoethnographic in nature. The topic is a proposal for the perception of traces of history through a city walk and personal, multi-sensory involvement. The aim of the article is to present the phenomenon of war traces in contemporary urban space and to present current practices aimed at preserving and commemorating them.
