Abstract

The study concerns three well preserved bifacial axes found by chance at the Pieniany-Kolonia locality in the Tomaszów Lubelski region, in the southern part of Grzęda Sokalska. The marks on these tools, which are made of Volhynian flint, reflect both hafting and use-wear, partly obscured, of the cutting edges. Based on morphological and technological analyses of bifacial axes from burial complexes, the finds from Pieniany-Kolonia can be dated to the Late Neolithic (Corded Ware Culture) or Early Bronze Age (Mierzanowice Culture, although Strzyżów or Trzciniec Cultures cannot be ruled out).
