Aims & scope

Archeologia Polski (Archaeology of Poland) is one of the leading Polish journals and one of the longstanding tradition. Published papers cover a variety of subjects of a wide chronological scope.
Subject area and type of publication: the texts are predominantly analytic, synthetic or review articles concerning different human activities in the past, recorded and discovered in the archaeological material. They can also concentrate on specific issues of past societies. Among the explored problems, there are questions of: settlement, environment, economy, production, trade, building, warfare, beliefs, and consumption.
Some articles concern archaeological methods and methodologies. Their aim is to promote modern, innovative research approaches and techniques of other scientific fields (especially those that are traditionally understood as sciences) and their application for the better understanding and interpretation of archaeological evidence. Using such methods, authors show the effectiveness of multidisciplinary research.
The integral part of the journal are the sections dedicated to scientific critique, comprising discussions, debates, polemics as well as comprehensive reviews (especially of foreign publications). Additionally, the volumes contain a chronicle and occasional articles (see Journal's sections | Archeologia Polski (iaepan.pl)).
Chronological and territorial scope: the papers relate to archaeology of the broadly understood Polish lands from the Stone Age to the modern period, discussed in connection to the wider European background. They may also concern other countries of our continent.
The aim of the current Editorial Team is upholding the editorial policy based on publishing comprehensive research articles of the highest scientific value. For that purpose, the published papers will relate to a broad spectrum of problems concerning archaeological material from different epochs and periods. We are intending for the journal to strengthen its position as a relevant periodical in the current academic discourse as well as intensify its innovative impact, marking new directions in archaeological studies and presenting novel methods and methodologies of various disciplines connected to archaeology.
The journal is addressed to professional archaeologists, but also to all those interested in archaeology and its approaches to answering general and specific questions on the history of civilisation, past societies as well as individual humans, based on analyses of traces of their activity.
